I truly understood why it was called an invisible illness, when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Disease. I suffered from so many symptoms that no one understood. People thought I was crazy that it was all in my head like I was some sort of a hypochondriac.
I started to understand why chronic illnesses are called invisible illnesses. You are labeled crazy or faking it, sometimes if others can’t feel your pain. This caused me to label myself as the “sick outsider.” But as long as we keep labeling ourselves, they will continue to label us too.
Instead of viewing your condition as a chronic illness in your body, view it as an opportunity to reconnect with your true self. This will allow you to see that you’re so much more than your disease.
The first step on your healing journey is to completely surrender to where you are in the present moment. Focusing on the breath will allow you to be in the present moment. We forget about the importance of focusing on the breath because we can get caught up with the daily stress from our health condition.
Focus on breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, slowly and deeply. I felt I was going to jump out of my skin, the first time I actually sat down to connect with my breath. I did not like it because I was forced to sit with my fears and worries. But after much practice, I actually looked forward to my daily meditation.
What You Can Learn
I learned that sitting with the worries and fears is what I needed, instead of trying to distract myself from my thoughts. Sitting with discomfort has the power to guide you to healing. Those random worries will eventually float by, like a cloud in the sky.
You will begin to feel more love, forgiveness, and hope. You will let go of all blame you put on yourself, the should have’s, and the what if’s. Everything will start to makes sense. Those things were not meant to happen. You will start to see that where you are right now is where you are truly meant to be.
Finding the Answers
Even if you are feeling uncomfortable, the key is to not give up. Give yourself the time to listen to your inner voice and receive the answers you need. It will not always happen at that moment, but it will happen. An event will occur, someone may tell you something that can change your life, or you may have that “aha” moment. This is when you will realize that you are so much more than your disease.
Until we hit rock bottom and we don’t know what to do, so many of us don’t realize how lost we truly are. Meditation and finding my true self is what guided me to the answers of how I needed to heal.
When I found myself everything else in my life starting to make sense. Particularly, it taught me where I was going wrong in my physical, emotional, and mental health. It led me to the answers that I needed to implement on my healing journey.
If you take a moment each day to get quiet and listen to your inner voice, you will get there too!
1. Find a comfortable spot. It can by lying down or sitting on a chair.
2. Close your eyes and begin to breathe through your nose and out through your mouth.
3. Inhale deeply and slowly, counting from one to two on each inhales and exhales.
4. Do this each day for at least five minutes.
I host different online meditations and this month will be the throat chakra and thyroid meditation. This meditation will teach you how the thyroid and throat chakra is connected and how to balance it. Click here for the meditation.
In Addition To My Meditation
In addition to my daily meditation, I add essential oils and crystals to amplify my practice. One of my favorite things to use is my chakra essential oil roll-ons. It combines my essential oils with a crystal roll-on ball. The perfect combination for me.
