We are exposed to chemicals everywhere we go and our bodies can only take so much. The use of chemicals has increased dramatically over the years. Therefore, it is important to eliminate as much exposure as we can. Research suggests toxin build up causes many diseases and health conditions. Toxins can get into the body from ingestion, absorption, and inhalation.
Purify Your Water
Tap water has become so dangerous and polluted that your water has a high chance of having heavy metals, pesticides, fluoride, chlorine, pharmaceutical drugs, and other chemicals. Coming from someone that has thyroid issues and knowing that fluoride suppresses your thyroids ability to function, is a big NO NO!
Unfortunately, our water is no longer pure. Instead of our water being filtered properly, it is treated with chemicals at a level that is “acceptable”. It is then treated with chlorine to “sanitize” which is extremely harmful. Therefore, the contaminants are never truly removed. According to the Environmental Working Group, water utility testing found over 300 different contaminants in the tap water that we drink in America.
Lab Tests detected contaminants such as:
- Heavy metals like mercury, lead, copper, aluminum, chromium
- Pharmaceuticals that are flushed down the toilet (both directly and urine)
- Viruses, pathogenic bacteria, and parasites
- Man-made toxic chemicals like pesticides and herbicides
- Sewage sediment
Dangers of Fluoride
As I stated earlier, those with thyroid issues should stay far away from fluoride as it suppresses the endocrine system. Fluoride is very harmful to the body but is added to the water on purpose. I know you might be thinking, what the heck, why on purpose? This is due to the belief that it is great for dental health.
Many people do not know that before fluoride was used for dental care, it was used as a medication to suppress an overactive thyroid. Recent studies are now showing serious concerns about negative health effects from fluoride such as lowered IQ in children (was researched in 43 separate studies) and thyroid dysfunction.

Filter Your Water
It’s important to make sure you are drinking clean water and stay away from water that may have toxins in it. Purchase a good quality water filter, which removes harmful bacteria, chemicals, and other contaminants from your water. The filter you choose should be based on your area. The toxins in your water are based on your area. The Environmental Working Group’s webpage allows you to input your zip code to see what is in your water. This will help you choose a filter that eliminated those specific toxins.
Be careful when consuming bottled water, as I will save this topic for another time, it can be harmful as well. The chemical BPA is in plastics can cause toxin build up in the body. Try filing a glass mason jar of filtered water or a glass water bottle.
