Food sensitivities can cause stress on the body which interferes with digestion and can lead to so many health problems. The issue is, most doctors will not test for food sensitivities and the ones that do, are so expensive!
Holistic Practitioners believes that the body exhibits a stress response when a substance is not right for that individual. Many holistic practitioners use muscle testing and biofeedback to identify these triggers. This is not an exact science but from personal experience, I believe it works.
The Coco Pulse Test
The Coco Pulse Test is an easy test to do at home with no training and no expensive equipment needed. Immunologist Dr. Arthur Coco published this test in 1956, it provides an easy way to trace a stress response to certain foods. It’s based on the theory of stressful foods affecting your pulse rate.
Have you ever ate something and you got a hot flash directly after? For me when I ate certain foods I would get a range of stress symptoms, some were:
- Hot flashes
- Extreme anxiety
- Panic attacks
- Heart palpitations
The foods that I was extremely sensitive to were, sugar, gluten, and soy. They gave me these symptoms instantly. Foods like dairy, green beans, potatoes, chocolate, rice and more, were slower with the reaction.
Dr. Coca’s book is now public and free on the internet. He guides you to record your diet and record your pulse 14 times per day (before rising, before retiring, before each meal and at 30-minute intervals after each meal).
If you eat a food you are sensitive to, you will calculate a quickened pulse after the meal. You can analyze your food journal with the recorded pulses and narrow the foods that you react to.
The LNT Coca Pulse Test
This test is quicker, easier!. “LNT” stands for Nuero- Lingual testing, which is the communication pathways between the mouth and the central nervous system.
When you taste food, this sends messages through the body and the body will communicate it through a quickened pulse if the foods are not ideal for you. This pulse test will allow you to test one food at a time and immediately learn if the food is a benefit or stress to your body.
Food Sensitivity Testing with LNT Coco Pulse Test
If you want to use a Pulse Tester instead of counting yourself you can do that as well. To do this follow the same directions below.
- Do this test 1-2 hours after eating or drinking anything.
- Start when you are mentally, emotionally and physically relaxed.
- Always take your pulse for one full minute. Don’t take it for 30 seconds and multiply it by two!
- While sitting, take a deep breath and slowly exhale.
- Take your pulse counting how many times your heart beats in one exact minute.
- It may be the easiest to feel your pulse by placing two fingers on the upper side of your neck. Record this pulse rate.
- Put a piece of food in your mouth. It is okay to chew, but don’t swallow.
- Taste the food for at least 30 seconds.
- Take your pulse again for a full minute with the food in your mouth.
- Spit the food out and rinse your mouth with filtered water.
- If the pulse rate rises 6 or more points with food, it indicated a stress reaction you should avoid that food.
- Let the pulse return to the baseline before testing with different food.
Note: if you are testing eggs, test the yolk and the egg white separately
Food Sensitivities Are Not Permanent
Food sensitivities can heal with time! Sensitivities occur due to leaky gut, which is when the tight junctions between the cells in the small intestines start to dissolve. As a result, undigested proteins and foods that were not fully digested will escape into the bloodstream. This triggers your body to form antibodies that attack the foreign particles in the blood.
When trying to heal your gut and food sensitivities, it requires you to temporarily remove the food in question for a few months. Re-test the foods at intervals of 3 months to see if your body is ready to reintroduce.
In more serious cases, a protocol may be required to heal the gut.
